The Isle of Wight council last week revealed that 92% of pupils were offered their first place choice of secondary school for admission in September 2015.
In unravelling the figures we found that Medina College attracted the highest number of second and third place choices.
‘Growing popularity’
Speaking today on the school admission figures, Mr Joe Finch, Chair of Governors at the Island Innovation Trust said,
“We have been advised by the Local Authority to expect 219 pupils at Medina College and 139 pupils at Carisbrooke College for this coming September.
“Both of these figures are an increase on previous years and are further evidence of the growing popularity of The Island Innovation Federation in Newport.”
Continued improvements at both schools
He went on to say,
“Under the leadership of Richard Williams and Peter Shaw, both Medina and Carisbrooke continue to improve rapidly, as was evidenced in the HMI-led Ofsted inspections which ran concurrently at both schools this week.
“At this stage, whilst we are unable to go into detail with regard to overall judgements, we can confirm how pleased we are that all the hard work going on in both schools has been recognised.
“It is likely that the number of students wishing to join both schools in September will now rise further as a result.
“We are keen to continue our collaborative work with the Local Authority and supportive councillors to secure the best possible education for all of the pupils on the Isle of Wight as well as the 2,400 already at Carisbrooke and Medina.
