On Sunday 8th March Guides from across the Island took part in the first ever Comic Relief Danceathon in support of Red Nose Day 2015.

All the Guides, aged between 10 and 14, joined thousands of other Guides up and down the country to take part in the special girl-only dance – getting sponsored to dance some serious moves for six hours.

Helping those living tough lives
Every Girlguiding member will collect sponsorship from friends and family to join in the fun and raise vital funds for people living really tough lives across Africa.

Girlguiding members on the Island were very lucky to have special dance instruction from local Try Zumba leaders Nila Lloyd, Angela Wood and Amelia Rusling.

Girlguiding’s Chief Guide Gill Slocombe, said before the event:

“I’m thrilled that Guides from communities all over the UK will be joining together for this fun-filled dance extravaganza. Together girls in Guiding are a powerful force for good and I’m very proud our young women are taking such positive action to help Comic Relief improve the lives of young people both in the UK and across the world.”

Danceathon on the Island took place at Ryde Junior School, kicking off in the morning, with the Guides gathering together to take on this epic challenge.

Some Guide leaders were welcomed at the event and joined in the fun with leaders Hannah Pothecary, Kay Burnley-Smith and Sheila Cates showing the girls a few dance moves.

Organiser of the Island event Hannah Pothecary said,

“All the girls had a really fun time and anyone who would like to sponsor the girls’ efforts please email me at [email protected].”

Just £10 could buy a school uniform for a child living on the streets of Ghana, helping them to go to school to gain vital skills and work towards a brighter future.
