Green Baroness Jenny Jones visits Ryde to discuss Island’s ferry service and sewage issues

News shared by Vix Lowthion, Isle of Wight East Green Party prospective parliamentary candidate, in her own words, Ed

Jenny Jones, Green Party Baroness since 2013, visited Ryde yesterday (Sunday) in support of electing Green Party MPs for the Isle of Wight.

In a packed morning she first listened to the Wightlink Users Group about the consequences of an unregulated, privatised ferry service and their ‘fairer ferries’ campaigns, and gave them some welcome advice about their next steps to take the issue to Parliament.

Jenny Jones also met with a number of Islanders concerned about the sewage outflows on our beaches who had gathered at Appley Beach. In 2023 over 38,000 hours of sewage was released into Island waters, and yet Southern Water has not received any fines in connection to their service on the Isle of Wight. The Green Party is the only party standing on the Island with a policy to put the water companies back into public ownership.

Jones: I’ve been so impressed with her work ethic
Baroness Jones said,

“It was a pleasure to support Vix Lowthion in her campaign to become the first ever MP for Isle of Wight East. She is a fantastic local champion for the Island and works tirelessly to raise important issues to improve lives for Islanders.

“I’ve been so impressed with her work ethic, and I just know she will make an excellent MP. I look forward to meeting up with her again at Westminster.”

Vix Lowthion said,

“It was wonderful to welcome Baroness Jones to the Isle of Wight again. In recent years we have had visits from all our Westminster Greens – including Caroline Lucas – because the Green vote on the Isle of Wight has been in the top 3 seats for Greens in the country.

“I have every confidence that we will have the highest number of Green Party MPs elected this year, and I hope to stand up for Islanders in Parliament alongside them too.”

“Hear from Vix”
Vix Lowthion is holding a “Hear from Vix” event where you can listen to her plans for IW East and ask her any questions you may have.

All are welcome to Fubar (Bar74) on Union Street, Ryde on Saturday 15th June from 3.30pm.

I believe that Vix is the only candidate in both IoW constituencies who doesn’t live in the constituency she is running for election in. However, she has lived on the Island for a long time and understands the challenges we face, both East and West. Unlike the Tories’ last two MPs, who were brought in from the mainland.

The untreated raw sewage causing sickness & preventing us from accessing natural resources should be measured by volume, not hours. Until & unless these essential utilities are removed from the clutches of Vulture Capitalism, without paying ANY compensation & with criminal charges that reflect the scale of the management’s embezzlement & criminal damage, they’ll continue.

I can appreciate Vix stand on the seas and nature being a strong believer in nurture nature and nature will nurture you. BUT there is more to running a country than the ECO side of things, perhaps she and others would be better mixing it up a bit more and come up with a more challenge linked party name so that we knew she also had the… Read more »

Not that I think Reform will do a good job they are too narrow minded in some areas.

Is that a euphemism for “horribly racist”..?
