Green Light For Winter Gardens Entertainments Manager

Ventnor town councillors last night agreed to a proposal by Cllr David George to advertise with immediate effect for an Entertainments Manager for the Winter Gardens.

Entertainments Manager On Cards For Winter GardensWorking party proposes short-term solution
Cllr George acknowledged the impending summer season and the need to have someone in place to promote the venue and build up bookings.

He told the councillors that following a working party meeting, it was felt that a six month contract for an Entertainments Manager would be easier and quicker to fill than that of the previously proposed, permanent General Manager.

The decision was dependent upon the locum town clerk, David Bartlett, agreeing to take one extra duties, which he confirmed at the meeting he would be happy to do.

Support from others
Cllr Welsford who has championed the need for a General Manager (GM) over the past few months, remarked that although he felt that the GM role was important to draw together the various strands of the Winter Gardens, as they’d got no further forward in recruiting for the position, that he would accept Cllr George’s proposal.

Full details of the new vacancy will be made public shortly and it’s anticipated that interviews will take place on 9th June.

I know someone who might be interested in this, when and where is the job ad coming out?

Has this only been advertised on VB? Are people really happy with an important role like this to only have this with an 11 day window of opportunity to apply. This is decreased even more when you take into account the 4 days postage (2 to get the form to you and 2 for you to get it back). Next, where else is it being advertised? I… Read more »

This week the complaint is that they’re been too quick. In past times it’s been that they’re being too slow, or not taking action.

It’s clear that some people will dig out fault in which ever way these people act.

Here’s an idea – just leave them alone to get on with what they need to do.

Was in C Press. You had to ring the clerk and he would send you pack, by e-mail probably. Time scales are within the norm so what’s the problem?

It was in the CP the very next day and I can assure you it has been taken very seriously indeed..at least by a couple of prospective candidates

I know also two people planning to go for it after seeing it on VB’s Facebook page. Not sure what you’re complaining about vibe, you should be glad that action is finally being taken to get someone in to get the bookings rocking, rather than nit-picking.

Forgot to add that as the applicant is going to have to be someone used to email, facebook etc, as islebeseeingyou says, people will get application forms emailed, so you don’t need worry about loss of days for postage.

I did say I may have missed it in CP. I clearly did so I accept being wrong. Lets wait and see if the 11 days given to the search is enough to find someone of quality that can get the Winter Gardens doing something again. I’m glad recruitment is such an easy, straight forward affair. I’m sure they know what they are doing? 6 months, £13,000???… Read more »

I agree…but add that if you do a good job the wage will go up to 26K and applicants off Island will have the improved quality of life

£26,000 is a good wage for people on the Isle of Wight, much higher than the average.

@isleofvibe if the right candidate doesn’t come through on the first round they can always advertise again. That is quite normal employment practice.
