Green Ventnor - Episode 5 - Flat Earth

  • We are a seaside town, known for its warm climate, with tropical plants growing in the Botanical Gardens, and so to have even warmer summers is wonderful. It will bring back the holidaymakers to the town.
  • We love to surf and kite-surf, and the stormier seas are even better these days.
  • Pollution is not a problem – breathe in our wonderful fresh sea air.
  • All the nasty things like power stations and steel works are on the north island. Our countryside is so pretty we don’t even have to have wind farms.

Flat earth

  • We have no industry messing up the atmosphere and we pump all our sewage to somewhere else.

So are you are greener than you look? Where do you stand in the categories below?

  1. I understand all about climate change and mankind’s contribution to it, and I am personally doing various small things to lessen the effect I have on this situation. Maybe this will be sufficient.
  2. I understand all about climate change and I am going to completely change my lifestyle so that I and my successors will benefit.
  3. I understand all about climate change and global warming. I heard one or two scientists say that it is a natural phenomena, i.e. not manmade. That is good news because it enables me to carry on as before. Rising sea levels don’t worry me up here in Zig-Zag road. Sorted.
  4. I belong to the flat earth society. I have made up my mind. Please don’t confuse me with facts.
  5. Aren’t the summers nice and warm lately?

“¦hopefully you stand you are somewhere between 1 and 2 “¦Look at Google for the real shape of the earth.

Not this again. Why do you and that old bloke from St Lawrence insist on calling people who disagree with you views “flat earth believers”? It is rude, patronising and typical of the Global Warming “terrorists” Perhaps you may care to pose your stupid questions to the residents of Sheffield, Rotherham and the like, who are drowning in a torrent of water that Mother Nature has slung… Read more »

In the case of Sheffield, etc when you build on a flood plain that Mother Nature uses to hold the excess water in extreme downpours, expect to be flooded at some time.

Personally I think this is more to do with concrete, etc rather than global warming, the shape of the earth or time of the month.

I see that you probably fall into category 3, “we are all doomed and there is nothing that can be done”. Fair enough.
But, watch out for the “global warming terrorists” they may let the tyres down on your 4×4 or they may even erect a wind generator next door to you. Suicide bombing is so pointless, and anyway, paradise is running out of virgins.

globaj warming seems to mean rekless planning in western countries & indeed many others led i am embarased to admit by the greedy west add to that several millenia of hysterical deforestation (the lungs of the planet)………….result climatic chaos hardly comes as a shock does it? i think i will hang on to my 4×4 when the going gets rough i keep going perhaps the climate terrorists… Read more »

Brian, As I already pointed out on a previous “green post” of yours, I recycle everything that is it possible to recycle. So I would put it to you that I am not in category 3. What I and many others object to is your and old Hatchback’s reference to people as “Flat-earthers” just because they do not toe the prevailing line. It ill becomes you to… Read more »

I know the “climate change” message is very unwelcome and, like a lot of things in life, it I not totally, absolutely 100% proven. It may well be that mans’ effect of the planet is acting in tandem with other natural forces. This was very much like my grandfather who smoked 30 a day and yet lived to age 89. All the evidence was that smoking was… Read more »
