There was a period of under an hour last night when VentnorBlog was redirecting people viewing the site to a hoax site offering fake virus cleaning software at a site called musikkorps.com.
Some little sneaky whatsit had snuck some code into the site, but thanks to the vigilance of several VB readers, this was brought to our attention and we were able to remove the offending code.
From time-to-time this occurs on even the best of sites, but as you’d expect, VB takes the open approach of letting you know it’s happened.
It appears we were in good company last night, as according to The Register, something similar happened to two of Apple’s pages too.
As part of the clean-up process, we’ve changed some software, thus closing that little gap.
Anti-malware software
We use and recommend using two levels anti-malware software on your computer. On our PCs we use a combination of Malwarebytes and Avast, which to date has worked for us.
Using this combination, we were alerted the destination site changing, before our Web browser actually reached the site, thus remaining safe.
If you don’t have that kind of software in place, it’s definitely worth doing.
