Girl Guides Wembley Arena:

Guides and leaders wowed by Little Mix, Union J and Conor Maynard

Thanks to Suzanne for this update from the Island’s Girlguiding. Ed

All the girls were thrilled to see some of their favourite pop acts, including Little Mix, Union J, Conor Maynard and Katy B, at the exclusive Girlguiding event. Joined by 23,000 other Girlguiding members from across the UK, the girls made it a day to remember even though it made for early morning starts from the Island.

Leader of 1st Ventnor Guides Julie Hudleston said,

“It was a fantastic concert. The acts were brilliant but as well as that, I get so much pleasure from watching the girls enjoying themselves. I love the atmosphere of the whole arena filled only with members of Girlguiding. That is really awesome.

“It’s so rewarding volunteering with Girlguiding – everything the girls experience, the volunteer leaders experience, and who doesn’t love a good concert. The more volunteers we have, the more girls get to go.”

Julie’s favourite act was Union J. Julie’s assistant leader Kirsty Pitts said, “It was very loud.”

Comments from the girls
Girls from 1st Ventnor added their comments:

Sydney Pitts: “It was JAHMAZING like Jahmene” – he was one of the acts Jahmene Douglas.

Victoria Ford: “It was amazing.”

Jade Abraham & Tasha Croad: “This year was better than the last time because of the line-up. Union J was incredible and Little Mix were amazing. We wouldn’t have missed this Big Gig for the world.”

Lucy Taylor “This was my first Big Gig and it was one of the best times of my life. Little Mix were totally incredible.”

Sarah Jamieson “Big Gig is the best musical event I have ever been to in my entire life. Everyone should go.”

Ellie Scovell and Shannon (can’t publish her last name)” It was definitely the concert to be at because everyone was just amazing.”

Get involved
Across the UK none of this would have been possible without the volunteers who lead the groups of Guides. Anyone on the Island who would like to help with Girlguiding can contact Island Commissioner Janet Lovell via www.girlguidingisleofwight.co.uk

The Guides had a brilliant time at the Big Gig and always have a great time at weekly meetings and there’s always room for more to join.

BIG GIG
BIG GIG is hosted by Girlguiding – the leading charity for girls and young women in the UK. It is held for members aged between 10 and 14 and has seen some of the biggest names in pop perform at major venues around the UK over its 12-year history.
