Half Term Fun On The Isle of Wight

If you’re wondering what you’re going to get up to with the kids next week during half term, here’s a selection of events from the IW Tourism Board.

Half Term Fun On The Isle of WightSilence the sighs of bored children and teenagers this October with a truly magical trip to the Island’s Steam Railway where a Wizard Week is being held from 22 – 28.

With magic shows, Amazon World animals, Crackers the Clown and Bats from the Bat Hospital, the whole week is jam packed with activities for all ages. There will even be prizes for the best fancy dress – so any Harry Potter lookalikes should definitely pack their wand and cloak!

On Tuesday 23 October, why not visit the Needles Old Battery – the Victorian coastal defence in West High Down – and join in the Big Draw, based on the part Needles played in the space programme?

For less extreme excitement, Garden Fun at Mottistone Manor Garden on 25 October features a special family day of activities and trails around the garden. Call 01983 741302 or email isleofwight(at)nationaltrust(dot)org(dot)uk for more information.

Get in the mood for Halloween with ghosts and ghouls at Appuldurcombe’s haunted house – where all manner of spooky activities are being held from 22 – 27 October.

Half Term Fun On The Isle of WightMore ghostly goings on can be found at Blackgang Chine which will be hosting Ghost Walks from 25 – 26 October, where tales of gruesome deeds and mysterious sagas will be revealed at this truly unique location.

The Isle of Wight Zoo – one of the top attractions on the island, and the setting to the popular TV programme Tiger Island – will be hosting a National RSPB Feed the Birds Day on Sunday 28 October.

There is even a Cider Day and Brickfields Horse Country, also in Ryde, on 28 October – where the whole family can see demonstrations on how wine is made with the aid of horses!
