The Hambrough Hotel on the Isle of Wight is pleased to confirm the appointment of its new Head Chef, Darren Beevers.

Beevers, who has gained extensive Michelin experience at a number of restaurants including Chez Bruce, The Capital, Le Poussin at Whitley Ridge, Pollen Street Social and his most recent position as Head Chef at one-Michelin starred Club Gascon in Central London, is re-opening the restaurant on 5th June 2013.

Joined by partner
Beever’s partner, Johanna Rogers, will be joining him to run the Hotel as Operations Manager – Johanna has experience working in top quality hotels both in the UK and internationally.

In the kitchen, he will be bringing with him Sous Chef Daniel Perjesi with whom he worked at The Capital and became his Sous Chef at Club Gascon, and will be joining Alex Wibberley, the Head Pastry Chef at The Hambrough.

Background
Beevers grew up in Hampshire just across the Solent from the Isle of Wight and is very excited to be returning to the area and by the prospect of running the Hambrough kitchen and cooking with the excellent local produce on his doorstep.

The Pond Cafe
The news of the appointment follows swiftly on from The Hambrough Group’s announcement in May of the new Head Chef at The Pond Café, Chris Denney and his Senior Sous Chef Joe Gould. Denney has extensive Michelin star experience having worked at Piazza Duomo, Nahm in Bangkok, Hambleton Hall, Coworth Park and Viajante.

The Pond Café, The Hambrough’s sister restaurant in nearby Bonchurch village, re-opened at the end of May.

Thompson’s departure
The opportunity to take over the running of The Hambrough Hotel and restaurant, a one-Michelin starred, 5 AA star property, arose following the announcement in April that Robert Thompson, the Group’s Chef Patron had decided to leave the company following five successful years on the Island to pursue other goals.

Winter Gardens
Following Thompson’s departure The Hambrough Group now feel that they are in a good position with strong teams in their existing restaurants and hotel to continue to offer exciting food in a very special part of the country and will allow the Group to concentrate on progressing with redevelopment of the Ventnor Winter Gardens Project, incorporating a 34-bedroom hotel, food and beverage outlets and a 400 seat auditorium.
