Children at Christmas

Handy guide for families released ahead of Christmas

The Isle of Wight Council service has written several ‘Christmas time survival tips’, giving advice on a range of subjects.

It also provides contact details for several local and national help lines and numbers for key organisations such as the new children’s safeguarding services phone number on the Island for people to call if they are worried about a child, the NHS, the Island Women’s Refuge and emergency numbers for utility firms.

Useful information in one handy document
Catherine Hall, the manager of FIZ, says the guide was written to give families a handy booklet full of hints and tips for the festive period. She said:

“Christmas can be a stressful time and for many people they may not think about things such as how to prepare food safely, how to decorate the Christmas tree safely or even how to stop the children getting easily bored.

“If there is an emergency and you need to ring a service such as the NHS or a utility firm, the last thing you want to be doing is worrying while trying to find a contact number.

“The Christmas survival guide provides all this information in one handy document and hopefully it will be a big help to families.”

Where to find the guide
The guide can be downloaded from FIZ’s website at www.iwight.com/wightchyps under the Holiday Activities Guide tab or see embedded below.

A copy of the guide can also be collected from FIZ which is located next to Newport’s Lord Louis Library.
