Have your say on the Island’s abattoir proposal, urges Isle of Wight MP

The Isle of Wight MP is asking Islanders to get in touch with him to voice their opinion about the need for an abattoir on the Island.

At the moment, farmers have to send livestock to an abattoir on the mainland, which is costly and some believe causes additional trauma for the animals travelling to the slaughtered.

Meeting planned later this week
Earlier this year Bob Seely MP met with Farming Minister, Mark Spencer, after which he promised to set up a meeting between the minister and Island representatives from the National Farmers Union (NFU) to discuss the issue.

The meeting is planned for Wednesday 28th February 2024.

Seely: I will be asking Islanders to voice their opinions
The Isle of Wight MP said,

“Introducing an abattoir facility on the Island would improve the Island’s economy, ensure animals are treated more humanely, reduce food miles, and provide assurance that meat sold as Isle of Wight meat is from the Island.

“I will be asking Islanders to voice their opinions on the subject. They can either comment on my social media channels or ideally, they can email me with their thoughts.”

How to get in touch
You can find Bob Seely on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram or email bob.seely.mp@parliament.uk

Is it coincidental that traditionally Conservative voting farmers are being offered public funding to support their private businesses during an election year? The cynical timing of Seely’s intervention aside, is provision of an… Read more »

Oh no, not more hot air from Bob! He might trigger off a climate crisis all on his own, especially with a general election on the way.

Regrettably, successive agricultural policies – and a certain government’s persistent failure to implement the positive aspects of them – and conversion of farmland into luxury housing have meant there is no longer enough animal husbandry on the Island to justify an abattoir.
Not that that will occur to Dr Robert Seely MBE MP, the thinking man’s waste of space.

There used to be an Abattoir on the Island, which was closed on the grounds that it ‘was better to go to the Mainland than keep an Abattoir on the Island’, sic, I thought then how stupid, wasteful and environmentally corrupt that idea was at the time, but, rather like everything else moved to the Mainland and insultingly as well as laughably trumpeted as being a good… Read more »
