The annual Ventnor Boxing Day Swim returns on Sunday (26th), this year organised by Ventnor Carnival Association.
In past years thousands of people have gathered to watch 100+ brave souls run into the sea for their post-Christmas dip. Given the situation with Covid, we expect the numbers will be reduced this year.
Bracing and invigorating
If you need to work off the excesses of Christmas Day, a dip in the sea on Boxing Day is sure to help. Sometime, even watching from the shore can be bracing and invigorating.
Of course, a wonderful part of watching the Boxing Day Swim is seeing the tradition of dippers donning a variety of fancy dress outfits.
Take part or spectate
If you are planning to take part, gather on the beach from 11.30am and the swim starts on the whistle at midday (tides permitting).
Spectators can assemble along the esplanade to cheer on the swimmers.
Well done to all those taking part, the volunteers collecting bucket donations for the Carnival Association and P.A.T.C.H. (local cancer charity).
Don’t forget to stick around in town afterwards to have a drink in one of the local cafes, restaurants or pubs.
