The Isle of Wight will experience thunderstorms from 8pm tonight (Wednesday) according to a Met Office weather warning.
The warning, which runs from 8pm Wednesday to 8am on Thursday reads:
Spells of heavy rain are expected this evening and overnight. In some places, most likely over northern and eastern parts of the warning area, there is a chance that rain will be accompanied by thunderstorms and frequent lightning.
20 to 40 mm of rain is expected to fall quite widely with 50 mm possible in a few places.
In some places much of this rain may fall over a 2 or 3 hour period.
What to expect
- Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures
- Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services
- There is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost
- There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds
