Helpers needed: Isle of Wight’s very own DIY SOS for a mother in need (Update 2)

Des Knight from Knight Skip Hire is calling on Islanders to come together to help a Ryde mother in need.

The reasons behind it are explained below, but he’s proposing Isle of Wight’s very own DIY SOS on 17th September and 18th September, calling on Islanders to help clean the house, wash cupboards and walls, dig the garden, paint, mend fences, fill skips and basically do anything that needs doing.

“Brought close to tears”
Des explains,

“I delivered a skip today to a young lady who needs help. She doesn’t know I’m writing this but her story almost brought me to tears.

“The lady in question and her children have moved in with her mum in the Ryde area. Her niece, who was living at the house, has brain damage and has been taken into care at Beaulieu House, Newport.”

He goes on to explain that someone was responsible for swindling £10,000 from the niece’s trust fund, conning the solicitor and saying work had been carried out on the house when it hadn’t.

He said,

“Trust me, it is far from tranquil or decorated. The whole place, for want of better words, is like a landfill site (please excuse me for being so blunt, but it is).

“Her dream is to have her niece home for Christmas, but she faces a massive uphill battle to make it happen.”

You can help “make family’s dream come true”
He went on to add,

“This is where we step in. I’d like to make this family’s dream come true. I’ve never done anything like this before but my heart is telling me it’s the right thing to do (for once in my life to act selflessly).

“I’m asking all my Facebook Friends to spare some time Saturday 17th September (update: due to the number of offers of help also on the 18th September) to help clean the house, wash cupboards and walls, dig the garden, paint, mend fences, fill skips and basically do anything that needs doing.”

Isle of Wight’s very own DIY SOS
Des finished by saying,

“The Isle of Wight’s very own DIY SOS, if you like. I’m going to provide the skips, free of charge. What can you help with?

“Got a mini digger? Are you a Plumber or a Sparky? A Painter and Decorator? A Gardener or a Handyman?

“She doesn’t know which way to turn. She’s trying to cope with so much and it’s clear to see that the pressure is getting to her. She cried her eyes out today just because I’d delivered a skip. It was heartbreaking.

“She too has her problems, three young children to look after and a serious knee problem.

“So, who can I rely on? Who will help me, help this family?”
