Hentai Babies gaining Worldwide attention

Isle of Wight band Hentai Babies are attracting attention from around the world, including the great Rodney Bingenheimer(!), among a slew of many others.

Hentai Babies:

There’s a massive buzz surrounding Isle of Wight band Hentai Babies at the moment, and it’s not just a local buzz.

The three piece band has been getting some pretty amazing radio play recently.

Over the last four weeks, their ‘most excellent’ track – One Potato Two – which was recorded at Studio Humbug in East Cowes, has been played around the world.

The legendary Rodney Bigenheimer
If you happen to tune into LA Radio Station KROQ on Sunday evenings, you’ll be able to sample the ‘Rodney on the ROQ’ show, hosted by the legendary Rodney Bingenheimer.

If you’ve not heard of Rodney before, he’s kind of like the American equivalent of the late John Peel and is responsible for exposing bands such as Blondie, the Ramones, the Sex Pistols, Guns N’ Roses, The Cure, Nirvana and Sonic Youth to his American audience well before they made it big.

Rodney certainly seems to be a fan of Hentai Babies, having played One Potato Two more than a few times.

Japanese admiration
Over on the other side of the world, it seems DJs in Tokyo are also digging the Hentai Babies sound.

Tokyo Radio Station InterFM’s ‘What The Friday’ (WTF) Show on Friday mornings got pretty excited about the new track, as you can hear below.

Closer to home
Back in Blighty, Hentai Babies have been played twice previously on BBC Introducing The South with Melita Dennet and Phil Jackson and just last week, Melita gave the band another plug on Tom Robinson’s excellent BBC6 Saturday night show.

While we’re on the subject of Tom, the Hentais have just been picked as ‘Fresh faves’ on Tom’s Fresh on the Net publication.

What they’re up to
The band features Paul McCann on vocals and guitar, Bianca Wheeler on bass and Owain Casey on drums.

They tell us that they’re currently working on new music and recording this month again at Studio Humbug. Look out for news at the end of June/early July of new releases.

Live gigs
In the meantime, you can also catch them at two upcoming gigs.

Tomorrow night (Thursday 20th) they’ll be at The Tap in Sandown (supporting Bullybones) and next Thursday (27th June) they’ll be returning to The Tap again!

Big thanks for the band
When we were chatting to the band about this piece, they asked us if we could include a list of ‘Thank you’-s from them, so here you go ….

“It’s amazing that Rodney is supporting us. It’s a huge honour and surprise. He’s a legend. And we love him loads. Thank you Michael X. And to Cindy – A GREAT BIG THANK YOU – You’ve been the best Cindy.. And to the guys at ‘What the Friday?’ show at interFM Tokyo.. Mike and George and Taro.
