High Street building eyes loft and extension for extra flats

Instead of tiles, it’s teeth as an Isle of Wight dentist moves location and a plan to turn an entire building into flats is scrapped.

What used to be Atlantis Heating and Plumbing Bathroom Showroom in Wootton Bridge will have a new life in the coming weeks, as a dental practice.

Ryde’s Tower House is moving into former bathroom showroom, under the name Isle of Wight Dental Clinic.

It follows the Isle of Wight council’s refusal of plans to turn the showroom into flats.

Extending flats into the loft and extension
Work is already underway to transform the ground floor space, but planning permission is also being sought for more flats at the High Street building.

The building already has two second-floor appartments and owner, Alex Cozens, wants two more, in both the loft and an extension.

Advice from officers
In documents submitted to the Isle of Wight council, agent, Elmstone Architectural, says it has revised the proposals in line with the planning officer’s comments.

The agent said the plans would support the town’s high street, as the shopfront would be retained and there would be much-needed dental facilities for Islanders.

The public consultation runs until 6th October 2023.
