A report published today by Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabularies (HMIC) shows that Hampshire Police Authority has a mature approach to assessing and managing the transition process to a Police and Crime Commissioner.
Police and Crime Commissioner election on 15th November
On 15th November the people of Hampshire and Isle of Wight will elect a new Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) to be responsible for overseeing policing in our communities in the PCC elections.
HMIC is reassured that the authority not only has clear plans in place for managing the handover to a PCC, but also with the level of Members’ commitment in ensuring effective governance through transition. The authority is determined to continue to deliver effective policing governance for the communities of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight until the handover.
“Two major tasks facing us”
Councillor Adrian Collett, Chair of Hampshire Police Authority, said: “We have two major tasks facing us during our last four months. Firstly to continue to focus on ensuring strong police performance across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight right up to the day we go and secondly to work towards a sound transition to the new PCC.
“On November 15 the people of Hampshire and Isle of Wight will elect a new Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) to be responsible for overseeing policing in our communities and, whatever we think about this, we need to ensure this is as successful as it can be.”
