Honouring a legacy: John Howe’s community service remembered at memorial event

The son of former Totland councillor, John Howe, has been in touch to share news of the upcoming memorial service, following his father’s death on 14th November 2025.

Paul Howe explains that although he now lives in America, he grew up on the Isle of Wight and still considers it home for his family.

He says his father’s life and service were closely tied to the Island, particularly the West Wight community.

Decades of public service
John Howe was born on the Isle of Wight and spent his entire life serving the West Wight, with more than fifty years as a Totland Parish Councillor and twenty years representing Totland on the Isle of Wight Council, alongside extensive voluntary and community work.

Paul says his father’s work touched many individuals and families across the Island.

Invitation to a memorial service
The family hopes to reach as many Islanders as possible whose lives John Howe’s public service and community involvement affected.

The memorial service will take place on Saturday 10th January at 11am at Christ Church, Alum Bay New Road, Totland Bay, PO39 0ES. All are welcome.
