Hospice staff and volunteers on the catwalk for Hospice Care Week

Hospice staff and volunteers were among those who took to the catwalk at the event, which was hosted at Brading Haven Yacht Club. The event showcased a wide variety of clothing and accessories sold in the hospice’s shops around the Island, and gave the audience a chance to hear styling tips from renowned Island Style Coach™ and image consultant, Dee Becker.

Dee, who was also compering the event, showcased the outfits in five different themes and shared her knowledge about autumn and winter fashion trends and styling with the patients, staff, volunteers and others watching the show.

Those attending were treated on arrival to a glass of Prosecco, kindly donated by Island Ales. As well as a prize draw on the night, a necklace donated by Isle of Wight Pearl (RRP £200) and made by one of the models, Colette, was auctioned in aid of the hospice. As auction fever took hold, a last minute addition was the auctioning of Dee’s husband, Tony Becker, who offered to take the lucky winner out to dinner. Tony successfully raised £50 and will be taking two ladies (and four of their friends!) out for dinner.

The event took place as one of a number of initiatives being held as part of Hospice Care Week (6-12 October 2014) – an annual national campaign to help raise the profile of hospice care. The campaign focus this year aims to help raise awareness of the many ways in which care is delivered beyond hospice buildings into people’s homes, community, care homes and the hospital.

Earl Mountbatten Hospice Chief Executive Jo Blackburn said:

“Our hospice shops around the Island play a key role in helping provide the vital funds we need to ensure we can continue to deliver care and support to Island residents both at the hospice and out in the community.

“We’re immensely grateful for all the donations of clothing that we receive in our shops and, with everyone’s help, I hope we have demonstrated how easy it is to turn these into catwalk worthy outfits.

“Our thanks to Brading Haven Yacht Club for their continuing support in hosting the event in such lovely surroundings; to Dee for all her generous help and support; and to Donna Jones Hairdressing and Lisa Burt, who runs Blush, who were on hand to beautify the models before the evening began.”
