Currently, if a Hover journey has to be cancelled, passengers are automatically transferred to a Wightlink service – the catamaran, or in the extreme circumstances that that isn’t running, the Wightlink car ferry.
From the 2nd April this free transfer is being withdrawn by Hovertravel, but it’s not all loss, as season ticket holders will get an ‘apology ticket’ if their service is struck out by a cancellation. They’ll also get an extra day on their season tickets.
Different for child season ticket
Children with 12-month season tickets will retain the free transfer, up to ten journeys through a voucher scheme.
If the cancelled journey is a single pre-paid ticket, a refund form will be available.
This change had been proposed back in November 2011, but after the Hover service was fully suspended, they put the decision on hold.
Price rises
The cost of travelling on the Hover will increase on 2nd April 2012. Single tickets will go up by 6% and season ticket by 3%. Hovertravel cite a doubling of fuel prices.
