Find out how you can help Isle of Wight author launch new children’s book

Isle of Wight author, Fran Heath, has this week launched a Kickstarter campaign to publish a new children’s book.

How We Choose To Play is a children’s rhyming picture book about a brother and sister who think they have nothing in common.

Fran says,

“My own children’s drawings inspired me to write the story. They drew such different things – with my son it would be skateboards and weapons and explosions, and my daughter would always draw rainbows. It made me wonder why they chose the subjects they did; was it nature or nurture?

“In How We Choose To Play, Heather May and her older brother, Abel, are encouraged by their parents to follow traditional gender roles. But their drawings magically help them discover they’re more alike than they thought.

“Heather and Abel’s drawings will also feature in the illustrations, and for these I’ve enlisted the help of my children (aged 7 and 10).

The target
Fran is hoping to raise at least £600, but preferably £1,000.

The book will be an 8″ x 10″ paperback consisting of 28 – 32 full-colour pages. The funds raised will go towards the printing of the book and the bookmark, and the purchase of an ISBN number.

If the target is not reached, the project will not be able to go ahead at this time.

Pledges
There are a range of pledges you can choose from, all with something tangible in return.

A pledge of just £8 will get you a signed copy of the book in time (fingers crossed) for Christmas. Two copies cost £7 each, and three copies are £6 each.

The deadline to place your pledge is Monday 24th October.

Make your pledge here. You’ll be able to see some of the scenes and the first seven verses here.

Fran’s other work
Earlier this year Fran published her debut novel, Pencil Lead.

It’s a coming-of-age story about Lyle McNorton, a young man whose life after university doesn’t match his expectations. To distract himself, he hires escorts with an ex-girlfriend. But what begins as a bit of fun doesn’t stay that way as Lyle discover he can’t use fantasy to avoid reality.

The five star reviewed Pencil Lead is available now in paperback and eBook from Amazon.
