ICRTouch has made a cash donation to an Isle of Wight-based movement, whose mission is to save pieces of land from property development, with the aim to transform them into beautiful nature reserves for the local community to enjoy.
Kickstarted by Phillip Sard and Imogen Baden-Powell – great niece of Scouts founder Robert Baden-Powell – the movement began in the summer of 2023, when a picturesque plot of land was purchased in the East Wight.
In the memory of Imogen’s father
Located in Bembridge, the land was named ‘Pop’s Wood’ in the memory of Imogen’s father. To support this movement ICRTouch has donated £500 to help Phillip and Imogen cover some of Pop’s Wood’s maintenance costs.
Ongoing plans
Inspired by Pop’s Wood, Phillip and Imogen would like to take their operation further and turn other plots of land into nature reserves too.
In the future they would like to work with youth groups and local schools, to raise awareness around the importance of our ecosystem, and provide institutions with an opportunity to visit these reserves, so young people can learn about our environment first-hand.
Sard: We are pleased that Pop’s Wood is providing a sanctuary for all who visit
Phillip Sard, Nature Warden, said,
“The Pop’s Wood team are so grateful for the generous support of ICRTouch and we were encouraged to hear of their shared interest in nature.
“Donations like this enable us to maintain the Nature Reserves that we have already created and support us with our efforts obtaining further reserves.
“We are pleased that Pop’s Wood is providing a sanctuary for all who visit and that we are sharing our love of nature with the community.”
Saving these pieces of land provides quiet places in nature for young people to explore and enjoy, whilst also promoting improved wellness amongst the Island’s wider community.
Supporting the local community
The movement aligns with ICRTouch’s ongoing commitment to supporting the local community and improving resources around the Isle of Wight for future generations; and therefore will continue to support Phillip’s and Imogen’s work towards a greener future on the Isle of Wight.
