Friends and family of Island-based musician Pete Holden have raised thousands of pounds for local arts for wellbeing charity Independent Arts in his memory.
The Island charity, which supports isolated and vulnerable Island residents, was selected to receive a generous gift from Pete’s will by brother Chris Holden, following his sad death in 2021.
These funds were further boosted through the sale of records and music memorabilia at AAA Records in Newport, by Pete’s friends Paul Armfield and Andy Barding.
Showcase event
In addition to these donations, Chris, Paul and Andy worked closely with Independent Arts to organise a showcase of Isle of Wight songwriters at the charity’s Creative Hub in Newport. The ‘This Is Nowhere’ event raised more funds for the charity, but it was also an opportunity for 52 friends of Pete’s to come together to celebrate and remember him.
A huge success
Curated and hosted by Paul Armfield, the evening itself was a huge success, featuring an amazing range of Island talent including JC Grimshaw, Brian Sharpe and George Street Kids, each performing three or four songs, discussing song writing, and remembering Pete.
£2,245 legacy
In total, Pete’s legacy gift to Independent Arts stands at an amazing £2,245, funds that the charity hopes will support a brand new song writing project for young people on the Island; a fitting tribute to a man who had decades of experience in the music industry, helping to found the Womad Festival, and in more recent years, booking acts for the Rhythmtree Festival on the Isle of Wight.

Chris Holden is sure that Pete would be pleased with this legacy,
