IOW Friends of Palestine & G20 Events

IOW Friends of Palestine: G20 EventsRachel Bridgeland who is a member of the IOW Friends of Palestine group that meets in Ryde has written to us to see whether any VB readers would be interested in joining the group.

The group meets on a regular basis to discuss issues surrounding the situation in Palestine and members often go along to demos and rallies that are held around the country.

They are also arranging talks on the Island by a wide range of speakers, including Moazzam Begg, who was imprisoned in Guantanamo Bay and will be speaking of his experience and implications for civil rights and international policy.

We understand that two members of the Ventnor Community already travel up to Ryde for the regular meetings, but that if there were enough interested parties in the South, a group could be set up down here too.

Rachel has sent through an edited list of events taking place around the forthcoming G20 summit meeting on 2 April (see below) this year.

If you’re interested in the group, get in touch with rachel on [email protected]

Here’s the list of forthcoming events ….

LONDON DEMOS – UPDATE
” People from very different backgrounds, faiths and political persuasions now agree that we urgently need to make the economy serve people, rather than dominate them. But this change will only happen if ordinary people get engaged and push for the sort of world they want to see. An essential starting point is a mass demonstration on 28 March in Central London. It will take much more than one demonstration to create the better world we want to see – but WE HAVE MORE CHANCE OF CHANGING THE WORLD THAN AT ANY TIME IN A GENERATION. GET INVOLVED!”
Nick Dearden, Director, Jubilee Debt Campaign
