IOW parkrun #6 Report

Thanks to Jo for the report from Saturday’s parkrun, in her own words. Ed

parkrun runnersWhat a beautiful day for our second run of the Puckpool Park course, whilst the IW Festival has taken over our usual Medina/Seaclose course.

The temporary course is a more undulating 5k with lovely seaside views and the attractive and historic setting of Puckpool’s Victorian fortress. Despite the traffic disruptions we still had a good turn-out of 33 runners, including 12 first-timers.

Alan Rowe, winner this week
Our winner this week was IW Road Runner and parkrun regular Alan Rowe (VM45-49) with a time of 19:35.

Second place went to fellow IW Road Runner and first timer Dave Cass (VM45-49) in 20:59. Mainlander David Olsen (VM50-54) of the Stragglers was third in a time of 22:13 in his first appearance at the Isle of Wight parkrun.

parkrun runnersSeveral “Stragglers” – a London based running group – took part today and we hope they enjoyed our varied course.

Eden Crumplin best time so far
In her sixth consecutive appearance, our female winner today was Eden Crumplin (JW14) of the IW Athletics Club, in a time of 23:36 – her best on this course so far. This was Eden’s 3rd win to date.

Second place lady was Emma Spencer-Goodier (VW40-44) in her second parkrun and her personal best time so far of 25:38. Scarlett Felstead (SW25-29) came third in 26:21 – almost a minute quicker than last week – in her fifth parkrun, and Scarlett is also third in the female points table.

Veteran parkrunner
We had another “veteran” parkrunner with us today. Tim Wood (VM55-59), also of the Stragglers, was running his 156th parkrun today, and came in 5th in his first ever Isle of Wight parkrun! Nice running Tim!

parkrun runnersThe highest score in today’s age-graded competition was earned by our winner Alan Rowe (for the second time since Medina IW parkrun began) with an excellent score of 74.13% – earning himself another placing on the Global Age Graded Performance Table. Alan was also only a few seconds off his personal best, and is currently third in the men’s points table.

Jay Tuck in lead on points
In the men’s points competition Jay Tuck (SM20-24) is still in the lead with 548 points, and is now 32 points ahead of 2nd place Glyn Jenkins (VM55-59).

In the ladies’ competition young Eden Crumplin (JW14) remains in first place with an impressive 596 points, and a lead of 49 points over 2nd place Shelagh Thornett (VW50-55) of the IW Road Runners.

parkrun runnersThis week saw 4 new personal bests, bringing the total since the Medina IW parkrun started to 45. During these 6 weeks we have had 106 runners – representing a total of 15 different clubs – running the equivalent of 209 laps and a total distance of 1045kms!

The overall male course record holder is still the unregistered winner of our first ever parkrun on 7th May, in a time of 17:41, and the overall female course record holder is still Claire Kiely, who achieved an impressive 20:56 at the same event.

The course remains at Puckpool next week, and we look forward to seeing you all again then.
