Do Island businesses want more bandwidth?
We know that there are tons of Internet users on the Island – the crazy number of page views that VentnorBlog gets wouldn’t be so high otherwise.
Most of you lovely people are broadband users too, so it makes sense that the Isle of Wight Economic Partnership (IWEP) would be asking us, to ask you if you’d like faster access to the Web … so get involved.
Business needs the Internet
Being the IWEP, they’re primarily interested in business and doing what they can to make business function better on the Island.
There aren’t many businesses that could function without the Internet these days. Communicating without email has been unimaginable for a number of years and increasingly video links are needed to strengthen business relationships between partners, who could be anywhere on the planet.
Lots of people using video needs lots of bandwidth.
There are quite a few tech-related companies on the Wight already … and looking forward, one of the realistic futures for the Isle of Wight is to attract Internet-centric businesses to the Island bringing wealth and the possibilities of more jobs – while they enjoy the natural splendour that the Island offers.
More bandwidth?
So the amount of bandwidth available to the Island could be a vital factor in deciding the economic future of the Island. The more bandwidth available, the more attractive it becomes.
The IWEP are wondering how many businesses out there would like to have more Internet bandwidth available to them, say 100Mb/s.
Clearly the more interest that’s shown, the stronger their argument becomes in getting Island bandwidth boosted.
