Island embroiderer scoops national award

Congratulations to Alison Peters who has scooped first prize in a national embroidery competition.

Alison is a machine embroidery artist living in Porchfield, on the Isle of Wight and studied Art to degree level.

The competition, run by the International Craft & Hobby Fair (ICHF), was judged by the Royal School of Needlework.

Alison receive her prize in front of a packed audience on Sunday when she travelled to the Embroidery & Stitch show at the NEC in Birmingham.

The competition was themed on Scotland titled, “Glimpses of Scotland” and Alison was commended on the quality of her work and how she had managed to captured the essence of Scotland in her piece.

Great prizes
Her prize was a new sewing machine and a treasure chest of Madeira threads. She also won a beautiful trophy that she has for 12 months and will have her name engraved on.

Alison narrowly missed out on a prize last year when she received a “highly commended”, which encouraged her this year to try again.

She will be exhibiting her work at the Isle of Wight Open Studio’s this summer. Look out for her details on Events OnTheWight nearer the time.
