New VB writer Rosemary Hutton has been up at Island Expo 09 and has a series of articles coming out VentnorBlog over the next couple of days. The first two pieces give an overview of the exhibitors.
The Expo finishes at 5pm today, so do try to take time out to pop along to Cowes Yacht Haven if you can. Ed
As a relative newbie to the Island, I was hugely excited and a little nervous at the prospect of covering the first day of the well-renowned Island Expo at the Cowes Yacht Haven, but, despite a tiny bit of initial nerves, the wonderful smells of cooking and spices coming from the events centre were not going to deter me.
Smart Training & Recruitment
As soon as we were through the door, we were met by a lovely lady from Smart Training & Recruitment – a Newport-based company that offers apprenticeships and training in hospitality and catering, business administration, customer service and retail industries.
“Would you like a balloon?” Being up for exploring everything, I said, “yes please!”
We spoke briefly to the representatives of the stand and they’d brought along one of their budding apprentices, who had an interest in media and press, so we may see another budding contributor on VB soon!
Holistic Hanz
Next along the non-food trade areas that I stopped at was Holistic Hanz.
Hannah Davies has set up a mobile holistic service offering the most wonderfully relaxing massages, ranging from Indian head massage all the way down to your feet with some reflexology.
She gave me a free taster session of her massage capabilities, and I can categorically state that she really does have soothing “Hanz”.
She offers home pampering as well as services for local hotels and retreats, as well as holistic massage at people’s offices for those too stressed to take time out and want a chance to even out the work/life balance.
Coming up in Part Two, we continue to walk around the exhibitor stands and find out what businesses in the catering and hospitality industry on the Wight have to offer.
