Island Line trains: Council leader says train line should remain in franchise

Continuing the campaign to Keep the Island Line Franchise (KILF), Ventnor town councillor and Labour Party prospective parliamentary candidate in the 2015 general election, Stewart Blackmore, earlier today met leader of the Isle of Wight council, Jonathan Bacon.

Following his meeting, told OnTheWight,

“After all that has been written and reported on this important local issue, it was useful to meet face to face with Cllr Bacon and moreover to hear his unequivocal view, which he assured me was shared by the IW Council Executive, that Island Line trains should remain part of the South West Trains franchise.

“That view is shared by KILF and we look forward to working closely with the IW Council as we pursue our aim of ensuring Island Line remains part of the new franchise for the duration of that new franchise.

Deputy leader to attend public meeting
He went on to say,

“We also are pleased that the IW Council’s deputy leader Cllr Steve Stubbings will represent the IW Council executive at the public meeting we have organised at Shanklin Theatre next week.

“We look forward to maintaining a frank and positive dialogue with the IW Council as we continue our campaign to secure the future of Island Line by keeping it as fully part of the new regional franchise.”
