The project to rebuild and re-open Belgrave Road in Ventnor has been shortlisted for another national industry award.
The work – delivered by Island Roads with local companies Stoneham Construction and Corefix alongside international engineering consultants Atkins – has been shortlisted for a best project award in the 2023 Ground Engineering Awards.
The winners will be announced in London in July.
The rebuild of the Belgrave Road supporting wall and highway followed its partial collapse in 2020 following a period of heavy and sustained rainfall. Survey work ahead of the rebuild was shortlisted for a Ground Engineering Award in 2021.
Boulter: Delighted to have been shortlisted for another award
Jason Boulter, senior project manager in Island Roads’ structures team said,
“Given the challenges posed by such a unique location, this was a very complex project so we are delighted to have been shortlisted for another award.
“It is especially pleasing that we were able to work alongside two local companies – as well as the world-leading Atkins team – in delivering this bespoke solution to the local community.”
The Belgrave Road work was undertaken on behalf of Isle of Wight council as part of the Highways PFI contract.
