The Pick Up 8! Beach Challenge is splashing onto a beach near you!
Join us on the beach as we dive into Microplastic Bioblitzes, Rocky Rockpools stuffed with sea wonders, incredible Shark egg cases and… have you ever heard of the Olympic Games? If so, we’ll be hosting the ‘Oh-Limpet Games’… a beach sporting frenzy which will test your ‘SEA King’ skills and sporting agility… as we chase Naughty Nurdles off the beach.
Where and when
Event dates/times may change due to tides and adverse weather conditions, but this is the provisional list of dates, times and locations:
- Mon 14th Aug 2023 – 11am-2pm – Ventnor Beach by the Spyglass
- Fri 18th Aug 2023 – 11am-2pm – Freshwater Beach outside the Albion Hotel
- Sat 19th Aug 2023 – 11am-2pm – Compton Beach
- Sun 20th Aug 2023 – 11-2pm – Totland Beach to the right of the Pier
- Mon 21st Aug 2023 – 11am-2pm – Cowes Beach on Queens Rd to the right of the ‘On the Green’ Cafe
Pieces of 8
Check out how many ‘Pieces of 8’ microplastics have been removed from the beach since the Campaign started on our new Website.
Blue Seas Protection hopes to record at least 8,000 pieces of Microplastics being removed from the Sea by 31st December 2023.
How to take part
If you would like your Pick Up 8! finds to be counted as part of the Pick Up 8! MicroPlastic Campaign send us a picture of your finds and where you found them to Blue Seas Protection’s Facebook Groups Page: Upload your photos direct onto our Facebook group.
Feel free to share free resources, logos, images and campaign materials with your families, friends and anyone and everyone else… it’s all free for the Sea.
Let us know if you would like Blue Seas Protection to come to a beach near you or to a local event, we can provide our interactive hands on displays.
Join the Island-wide competition to see who picks up the most microplastic, which we invite all of you and your community to take part in.
