Fear of heights conquered: Isle of Wight Skydive benefits students with speech, language and communication needs

Last week, 13 fundraising individuals took to the skies above the Isle of Wight in a tandem skydive. The event was in aid of St Catherine’s School, Ventnor, which supports children and young adults with speech, language and communication needs.

The fundraisers took on the challenge with some even facing their worse fear. Taking off from Sandown Airport and under the expert tuition of instructor’s form Skydive IOW, they jumped 10,000 feet.

Among the participants was two of the schools Teaching Assistants, Chloe and Sam; groundsman James and his wife Jemma; brave supporters of the school Jo; Danny; Richard; Nic; Jason; Georgina; Jaide, Lauren and Evie the youngest jumper of the day, at just 16-years-old.

Chas from Skydive Isle of Wight said,

“Well done to all that took part for St Catherine’s from all the team at Skydive IOW.”

Tanya Smith, event organiser, said,

“St Catherine’s is such an amazing school and it was so humble to see the other 13 people take on the challenge, some had a general fear of heights. To see them all support each other to take part and overcome their fear was so lovely and doing so while raising funds for St Catherine’s.

“We would like to say a huge Thank You to the Skydive IOW team who were all amazing.”
