A new support group on the Island is harnessing the power of Facebook to help spread the word of what they have to offer.
Island Wide Smiles is a new group that has been formed to provide support and advice for parents, grandparents and carers of children under the age of five living on the Isle of Wight with a cleft lip and or palate.
The group was set up by Michelle Quinn whose 15 month old son who was born with a unilateral cleft lip and palate.
She was motivated to start the group after realising that although there are many regional groups on the mainland, the Island was without. Michelle hopes the Island Wide Smiles will be able to help support families affected by the condition.
Where and when do they meet?
The group has been meeting on a regular basis over the last few months, benefiting from a visit by the secretary of Wessex branch of the Cleft Lip and Palate Association.
The group meets at Sandown Children’s Centre, which gives the kids an opportunity to play with the equipment whilst the parents can talk freely over a tea or coffee.
The next meet up is on Monday 1st February.
