Amazing what can happen when you post to Facebook these days.
The Island-lad who in March this year received an 18-month sentence for robbing McColls, Union Street, Ryde in November last year, has this morning found himself in the Sun under the headline – “Lag’s ‘holiday camp’ boast“.
Facebook photos from inside Camp Hill
Somehow, out of all of the however-many billion pages that are on Facebook, The Sun has ‘found’ his pages where he posted some photos of himself in his cell and left a few comments about his time inside there. They’ve turned it into an ‘Exclusive’.
His problem is – and it could turn out to be a big one for him – prisoners aren’t allowed to have access to the Internet inside prison, or Facebook, and certainly not mobile phones.
The National nature of this story will cause severe embarrassment to those in charge at Camp Hill prison where it took place. That kind of embarrassment is bound to make his time inside less easy.
His posts
His posts like, “just on holiday. her majesty has sum fine establisments! camphill is 5star with ensuite facilities, wifi leaves alot to be desired. for bookings call … crease up”, although clearly intended as a joke, could give ammunition those say that prisoners have far to easy a time in prison. A quick look at the comments on the Sun story backs that up.
All of this from probably what felt like innocent posts on his Facebook, which looks like a simply an attempt to stay in touch with his friends.
We’ve taken care not to name this lad, so please don’t do so in the comments
