Still smarting from their away defeat last Tuesday up in the Midlands in the first leg of their KO Cup clash against the Cradley Heathens, the Wightlink Islanders are determined to get back to National League winning ways at Smallbrook stadium, Ryde tonight.
To do that they intend to come out with all guns blazing as they look to repel the challenge of Hertfordshire’s Hoddesdon-based Rye House Raiders and duly collect all three points in a match that gets underway at 7.30pm.
Preparing for National League Fours
As well as helping towards purging any lingering negative thoughts of last week’s away defeat, it will also put the Wightlink Islanders in the right frame of mind for Saturday’s National League Fours at Stoke that was rained off earlier this month.
A win tonight will certainly be expected of skipper Danny Warwick and his side but the visiting Raiders septet shouldn’t be underestimated, as they will be tracking a side who include no less than four very talented teenagers tipped to achieve stardom in the years ahead in their top five.
Talented teenagers
The first of them is Manchester-born Jason Garrity who was British Under 15 champion in 2008 and is also currently riding for his club’s Premier league side and he is joined by fellow teens Shane Hazleden, currently on loan to them from Elite League side Lakeside, Yorkshireman James Sargeant and Ben Morley who was put straight into the Raiders side at the age of 15 and, as are the others mentioned, is still only 18 years of age!
That makes Luke Chessell, who rode for the Wightlink Islanders last season so should know the quickest way around our track, positively the elder statesmen of the top five – and he’s just 22 years of age!
