Islandline trains - Filling between the new walls with material

Islandline work almost complete with revised timetable

This in from Stagecoach Group, in their own words. Ed

Repair work on the Island Line continues and is about to enter its final fortnight.

Two walls, one at the top and one at the bottom of the embankment have now been completed. These will provide ongoing support against weather related landslips. Work is continuing to infill and disguise the walls with a layer of topsoil, making their appearance more attractive. Work continues to be on time and we look forward to re-opening the Island Line in a couple of week’s time.

During the last two weeks we have:

  • Finished installing all piling (supportive walls) at the top and bottom of the bank
  • Completed the benching steps behind the upper walls

Finished filling behind the new walls with material enabling a level surface to be
created Over the next fortnight we will:

  • Install topsoil behind the upper piling walls
  • Install drainage on the slope
  • Fill and grade to finish level

Last train from Shanklin to run later
As a result of continued positive feedback from passengers, we will be making an
adjustment to our regular timetable.

When the Island Line re-opens we will be retiming the last services from Shanklin and Ryde Pier Head to run later.

These times will provide better connections to the late Wightlink Catamarans.

The last train from Shanklin will depart at 2238 and arrive at the Pier Head at 2300.

It will then depart Pier Head at 2315, arriving at Ryde St Johns Rd at 2320.
