Thanks to Thomas Cowley for his report from the latest Isle of Wight 4×4 Club event. Ed
Isle of Wight 4×4 Club had a fantastic event on Sunday at Haslett Sandpit, with 11 competitors battling it out over eight fiendishly tough sections.
This month we had our regular match between the Archer family father and son, both roundly beaten by Trevor Pointon in Class 4.

There were also two near-identical Daihatsu Sportraks toughing it out, with newcomer Michael Bird showing Allan Marsh how he should be attacking the courses we set!
Haslett sandpit provided a significantly different venue to the sites we’ve been using over the summer, with much steeper inclines, sideslopes and drops to challenge the competitors.
Rollover for class 6 winner
Even the more experienced can be caught out, as our chair (Thomas Cowley) found out, with a poor route choice on section three resulting in the first roll-over we’ve seen in a few years. This was caught on camera from outside and inside the car and can be seen in the video below.
Undeterred he went on to win Class 6.
Nick Bell, won Class three in his well prepared canary yellow Suzuki SJ on his first time out. Nick’s someone who the seasoned members are going to have to watch out for in 2012!
Final scores and information about our next event, which is an Island-wide Byway survey can be found on our blog.
