Letter To The Editor: Add One More To The Statistic

Earlier today we reported that the number of people claiming Job Seekers Allowance on the Island rose to 2,967 in September 2011. One VB reader, who prefers to remain anonymous had this to add to the discussion. Ed

Frustrated and angry that “the council” have put tourism at the bottom of the “things to invest in” pile on this fair isle, investment by potential future business investment down here seems unlikely, ergo jobs are going to be increasingly more difficult to find.

I sincerely believe that many tourism-related businesses will suffer and/or fail this year due to very low non-coach tourist numbers.

Judging by the council (in)actions, ferry pricing etc., increase in the number of HMOs and payload that brings”¦ I believe our island is destined to become an English Alcatraz and not the preferred tourist destination it once was.
