Isle of Wight artist, Lisa Traxler, opens new exhibition at Southampton City Art Gallery

Isle of Wight artist, Lisa Traxler, has a new exhibition opening this coming weekend in Southampton.

Back in 2020 Lisa was awarded first place in Southampton City Art Gallery’s Open Exhibition with her sculpture, ‘Time Traveller – Voyager’.

The work  which was inspired by a painting from Southampton’s Maritime and Local History Collection ‘Approach to the New World (Olympic)’ by artist Norman Wilkinson.

A new series of sculptures
Taking her winning entry as a reference point, history and architecture collide in this exhibition – which runs until early October 2022 – to create an immersive landscape within the gallery setting. 

Alongside dazzle artworks the artist has created a new series of sculptures transforming and dissecting previous works.

Opening event
The opening event takes place on Saturday 2nd July 2022 from 2-4 pm at Southampton City Art Gallery, Commercial Road, Southampton SO14 7LP.

Gallery opening times are:

  • Monday to Friday 10am – 3pm
  • Saturday 10am – 5pm
  • Closed Sundays

The exhibition continues until 8th October 2022. Entrance is free and all are welcome.

City Art Gallery’s biennial ‘open exhibition’
All residents of Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Wiltshire and Dorset are invited to submit their artwork for the City Art Gallery’s biennial ‘open exhibition’.

Southampton recently reached the final four in its bid to become UK City of Culture in 2025, which galvanised artistic and cultural activity across the city and wider region.

I’m astounded. This story has been up for a day and not one of the 900 objectors has so far commented. The project is destroying the integrity of the small sea front at Lane End and continues to be railroaded through with no thought or consideration of the public interest. The fact that an officer has to point out to Committee members a basic principle of planning legislation tells us all we need to know about the suitability of some or all members for the role. Even one incompetent member on this important committee is too many. These decisions have a permanent impact.
