Pull on your walking boots and discover the Isle of Wight this autumn, as phase one walks are now available to book for the 2026 Isle of Wight Autumn Walking Festival.

The multi-award-winning festival returns from 3rd to 11th October 2026, offering walkers the chance to explore some of the Island’s most beautiful landscapes, discover its fascinating heritage and experience the changing colours of autumn on foot.

An Island made for walking
Organised by Visit Isle of Wight and sponsored by Outdooractive, the festival brings together knowledgeable local volunteer walk leaders who share their favourite routes and stories, with a programme designed to appeal to everyone from keen hikers and experienced walkers to those simply looking for a gentle stroll and a chance to discover somewhere new.

With more than 500 miles of footpaths, over half of the Island designated as an Isle of Wight National Landscape and UNESCO Biosphere Reserve status, the Isle of Wight provides an exceptional backdrop for an autumn walking adventure.

What’s on offer
The festival programme features a diverse mix of walks, from coastal adventures and countryside rambles to routes exploring the Island’s rich history, wildlife and hidden corners. There are shorter walks for those looking for a leisurely outing, as well as longer and more challenging routes for those wanting to stretch their legs.

Why walk this autumn
Autumn is a particularly special time to explore the Island on foot. Hedgerows take on their seasonal colours, the countryside begins to change and coastal views can feel even more dramatic as the summer crowds disappear.

The festival is also a great opportunity to discover parts of the Isle of Wight that visitors may otherwise miss, with local walk leaders sharing fascinating stories, knowledge and insights along the way.

Booking and costs
The majority of walks are free to join, although booking is essential and some walks may request a donation to a chosen charity, while others are fee paying.

The festival also makes it easy to enjoy a walking break on the Island, with travel, accommodation and other offers available for festival participants.

What the organisers are saying
Dominic Wray, CEO at Visit Isle of Wight, said,

“Autumn is one of the most beautiful times of year to explore the Isle of Wight, and the Walking Festival is a fantastic way to discover the Island from a different perspective.

“Whether you’re an experienced walker looking for a new challenge, enjoy exploring local history and wildlife, or simply want to spend a few hours outdoors enjoying some spectacular scenery, there really is something for everyone.

“Our volunteer walk leaders bring the programme to life, sharing their knowledge and enthusiasm and taking visitors and residents to some of their favourite places around the Island.

“The Walking Festival is an important part of our programme to encourage visitors to experience the Isle of Wight outside the traditional summer season, supporting our local tourism businesses and showcasing just how much there is to enjoy here throughout the year.”

The Isle of Wight Autumn Walking Festival takes place 3rd to 11th October 2026.
