The Yahoo Groups service is being used as the vehicle for a new barter network on the Isle of Wight.
Founder of the idea, Kate Richards, posted a message to Facebook last week in order to raise interest for the scheme and it seems to be gathering support from other members.
Whilst encouraging Islandwide bartering, Kate later went on to make it clear that this is not envisaged as something that will take trade away from the small independent traders on the Island, but more along the lines of bartering excess crops from your veggie patch or such like.
Here’s what Kate had to say
“Thought i’d start this up after thinking i could swap my chickens eggs among friends and seeing as the island is a hive of home growers, home brewers and rather industrias folk I started a yahoo group as a meeting point for anyone who wants to do the same, with a resession about to tear the country apart this may help enough open minded folk to keep going through it just like as they say “in the good olde days” please feel free to join and pass the word on to anyone else you think might be intersted.
So, if you like the idea of swapping goods or services (especially useful in these hard times) then get onto the Yahoo Group or check out the page on Facebook.
