Isle of Wight boatbuilder secures £6.3m deal and 75 new jobs

It’s been a great week for Peter Morton, owner of the Carkeek 40+ Girls on Film racing yacht.

As well as winning the Fast40+ Race Circuit, his company, Wight Shipyard in East Cowes, gained its largest ever order — a £6.3 million contract with MBNA Thames Clippers, a London-based ferry company, which ordered two new high speed ferries.

This order will see the creation of 75 new jobs on the Island and in London and Peter, chief executive of Wight Shipyard, said:

“This is a fantastic order following on from Red Jet 6. It gives us some continuity in the fast ferry market.”

Wight Shipyard, formerly Shemara Refit is based at the Columbine Works in East Cowes.
