Isle of Wight Busking Collective return to Newport every Saturday

Buskers will be back in Newport this month, bringing great music and atmosphere to the town.

From Saturday 26th February, the Island Busking Collective will be presenting weekly performers and street entertainers in St Thomas’s Square. Their goal is to bring local performers and members of the community together to enjoy quality entertainment.

Helps to create that intimacy and social tolerance
The Island Busking Collective is part of a project to inject more vibrancy into Newport, whilst also supporting local musicians and young people. The Island Busking Collective is about creating shared experiences and regenerating Newport’s identity.

Busking helps to create that intimacy and social tolerance between members of the local community.

Pilot scheme a success
The concept was introduced by Market Days CIC last year as a pilot scheme to help regenerate Newport.

The scheme was successful so they are now continuing and expanding their vision.

James: Good buskers add colour and atmosphere
Stephanie James, Island Busking Collective Coordinator, said,

“Busking helps to create shared experiences between performers and people passing by or watching.

“Good buskers add colour and atmosphere, encouraging people to stick around and enjoy the town and its market.”

Who’s on this week?
The music starts every Saturday from 26th February, alongside the market stalls organised by Market Days CIC.

Among the acts that are performing on the day are Dave Plummer and Maurice Kachuk.

Look out for upcoming acts on the Island Busking Collective’s Instagram and Facebook page.
