The Isle of Wight branch of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) has paid tribute to Ken “Buzzy” Matthews, who has died.
The branch described him as “a wonderful, warm and dedicated chap, one of life’s real characters”.
He joined the branch in the early 1990s and went on to hold a string of high-profile roles over the decades that followed.
Beer guides and the Wessex chair
Buzzy was born in 1939 and led an amazing and varied life.

Among his work for CAMRA, he published local beer guides. And he rose to become the organisation’s Wessex regional chairman.
Ill health forced his retirement
Health problems forced him to retire a couple of years ago.
The branch says “he’ll be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all in the Branch”.
