Isle of Wight comes together to reunite Ryde man with granddaughter

Having lost touch with her grandfather for over ten years, Lucy-Ann Wilson from West Molesey, took to social media platform, Facebook, to try and get back in touch with him.

Lucy-Ann had a few loose details of where her grandfather might be living on the Isle of Wight, which she posted on Linda Bassett’s Isle of Wight Community Information Group and so the ball started rolling.

Operation reunite
Members of the group set about trying to determine exactly where Lucy-Ann’s grandfather might be living, some said they’d get in touch with neighbours of a similar age who might know him, others tagged friends who might be able to help.

Just a few hours later Lucy-Ann was able to tell the group that someone who knew where her grandfather was now living had been in touch.

Success!
Lucy-Ann was overwhelmed with gratitude, saying,

“I just want to say what an amazing community the Isle of Wight is. I have had a message this morning and I have found my grandfather. He is in a care home.

“I will get to speak to him today. Thank you everyone. Words can not describe how thankful I am.”

Update 11.15am
Lucy-Ann has spoken with her grandfather and will be introducing him to his great-grandchildren this weekend.

Well done to everyone involved.
