Isle of Wight council commits to home to school transport for post-16 students with learning difficulties

The Isle of Wight council’s Cabinet will consider the continuation of its approach to home to school transport for students aged 16-plus when it meets next week.

The council has a statutory duty to publish an annual transport policy setting out the criteria for applications for school transport.

Following consultation during spring 2021 with secondary schools and stakeholders, no changes to the current approach are proposed.

Cllr Debbie Andre, who leads on children’s services, education and skills, said,

“The council is committed to ensuring transport continues to support post-16 students with learning difficulties to access education and training through our Post-16 Transport Policy.

“There is also provision from the council and post-16 providers to support students from low-income families, in care, and care leavers.”

The Cabinet is due to meet next Thursday (15th July) at 5pm.
