Fire at Lynnbottom

Isle of Wight council reassures public after fire at Lynnbottom tip (updated)

On Sunday night a fire was reported at the Lynnbottom HWRC.

Two of the large open skips for electronics and furniture were ablaze when Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire Service arrived at the scene to bring the fire to a halt.

An Isle of Wight council spokesperson said,

“There were no reported injuries and the fire occurred when the site was closed to the public.

“We apologise for any inconvenience and will issue updates when available, including guidance for anyone who had bookings.

“We would like to thank the fire service for their prompt action in containing this incident.”

It had been hoped that the tip would reopen this morning (Monday), but a spokesperson for Isle of Wight council added this morning,

“The skip fire at Lynnbottom HWRC and CWRC is still smouldering making the site unsafe to open today.

“Commercial customers using the main weighbridge to access the landfill and Windrow composting can still access those sites.”
