Isle of Wight cyclists head back to Goodwood

On Tuesday last week (24th May) six members Wightlink-LCM Systems Cycle Race Team travelled to Goodwood race circuit to take part in the 30 mile circuit races.

First up in the Elite, first and second category race with 50 other riders were Matt Allsopp and Stuart Waite. The race went fast from the start where both Wightlink-LCM Systems riders took turns off the front.

Allsopp punctured five laps in and was forced to retire leaving Waite by himself. Waite managed to position himself well and finished fifth in the bunch sprint, but there were six riders off the front so he finished in 11th place.

In the ten-lap third category race, James Ebdon, Kev Foster, Ian Hayden and Martin Sanders lined up on the start line. With multiple breakaway attempts being tried off the front, the team had them all covered, with Ebdon and Hayden being active in attacking themselves.

With two laps to go the race was neutralised to let the elite race through but unfortunately this lasted until the race had half a lap left, where the team were stuck in the middle of the bunch.

All four riders finished safely in the peloton.
