Southampton and the Isle of Wight are going head-to-head in a competition that will see 1,000 local employees cycling on the Island.
The two regions will compete between Monday 9 May and Sunday 29 May as part of the Wight Wheels and Southampton Cycle Challenges.
Free to enter
The Wight Wheels Cycle Challenge is a fun, free competition aimed at encouraging as many people as possible to discover the benefits of cycling.
Local businesses and not-for-profit organisations will compete in any one of five different categories, depending on their size.
The idea is that participants cycle at a time to suit them – even if it’s only for ten minutes – and log details of their journeys on the Wight Wheels Cycle Challenge website.
Join others who have already signed up
Over 50 local employers have already signed up to the Wight Wheels Challenge website including BAE systems, GKN Aerospace, UKSA, the RNLI and the National Trust.
More local employers are being urged to join them in a bid to improve health and sustainability on in the island.
Great opportunity
Challenge Coordinator William Ainslie says, “The Cycle Challenge is a free competition for local employers. It’s a great opportunity for people who work together to dust of their bikes, have some fun together and enjoy the spring sunshine. Employers benefit from this free team building activity.
“Cycling on the Island is important not only for people’s health, but also for local tourism and to improve the environment we all live in. People are getting really excited about this year’s Challenge already and I’d encourage as many people as possible to sign up!”
Prizes on offer including a bicycle
A range of exciting prizes is up for grabs for both teams and individuals, including a hybrid bicycle worth more than £500 sponsored by TAV cycles, cinema tickets and shopping vouchers.
The Wight Wheels Cycle Challenge is delivered by CTC Challenge for Change, in partnership with the Isle of Wight Council and NHS Isle of Wight.
