Isle of Wight Donkey Sanctuary seeks Valentine’s Day adopters for ‘Lonely Hearts’

Last updated:

This Valentine’s, the Isle of Wight Donkey Sanctuary in Wroxall is inviting supporters to open their hearts by adopting one of their least-adopted animals – four ‘Lonely Hearts’ still searching for a special place in someone’s life.

Animal adoptions at the Island’s popular sanctuary help support the lifelong care of all the rescued donkeys and other equines in the sanctuary’s care. Adopters receive exclusive updates, photos and stories from the sanctuary, helping them stay connected with their adopted love throughout the year.

With over 100 donkeys, ponies, a mule and a horse to care for, the sanctuary relies on adoptions to deliver the exceptional care they give their animals.

Wroxall’s most eligible Lonely Hearts
In 2026, Wroxall’s most eligible Lonely Hearts are:

  • Playful Major – very social and always up for fun; loves a game with the lads!
  • Sensitive Lenny – a quiet chap who leans in for a cuddle and melts your heart
  • Wispa – adores attention and is looking for quiet companionship
  • Long-legged Gabby – the elegant diva of the sanctuary

The sanctuary is open seven days a week this winter and visitors are very welcome to meet their favourite animal before giving them a place in their heart.

Smith: Why not share a little donkey love for Valentine’s
Adoption co-ordinator Lucy Smith said,

“We’re not quite sure why these adorable Lonely Hearts have been left on the shelf! All four are full of character and charm – any one of them would make a loving Valentine’s Day gift.

“It’s the perfect opportunity to celebrate a loved one while supporting a trusted local animal charity – why not share a little donkey love for Valentine’s.”
